Catchup post: the past two weeks of MWP, Havana at #1

Hello! I am back! I did not abandon this place... I mean, I must speak for everybody when I say that teachers give more homework towards the holidays then before. So I had a very large project or two to complete which dominated by time. Anyway, enough with excuses! Let's get to the reason you guys are here!

Top ten of the past two weeks of MWP (the top 30 would be much too long)
#49
10. Feel It Still (Portugal. The Man)
9. Rockstar (Post Malone)
8. Rain (The Script)
7. Broken People (Logic)
6. In The Wild (BRDGS)
5. Him & I (G-Eazy)
4. Dusk Till Dawn (Zayn)
3. Better Days (Hedley)
2. Outsiders (Au/Ra)
1. Home (Machine Gun Kelly) [2nd]

#50
10. Animal (WOLVES)
9. Him & I (G-Eazy)
8. Outsiders (Au/Ra)
7. Tryna Be (Romes)
6. Rockstar (Post Malone)
5. Better Days (Hedley)
4. Dusk Till Dawn (Zayn)
3. Broken People (Logic)
2. Crown (Camila Cabello)
1. Home (MGK)[3rd]

So there you go. Now, week #50 wasn't necessarily my birthday weekend, but it was the weekend following my birthday on Monday. And Sirius XM Hits 1 gave me a real treat: Havana at #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is, by the way, the first okay or higher song at #1 since Attention, at week #34. That's SIXTEEN WEEKS WITHOUT A GOOD SONG AT #1!!!! What is that?!?! Whatever, anyways that means I missed quite a few weeks to recap the countdown. So this post will be rather large (e.g. one little comment per song) but no colour-code therefore.

[Taken from Montavis]

45. Logic featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid – 1-800-273-8255 (#45) [=]
~This song makes me so depressed whenever I hear it. Quite contrary to the message.

44. The Script – Rain (#44) [=]
~Although the lyrics contradict the feeling, the song is fun and I love The Script.

43. Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber – Despacito (#43) [=]
~Still an amazing song.
42. Ed Sheeran – Shape Of You (#41) [–1] [Spent 9 Weeks At #1]
~I believe this song will be an evergreen for me. I hear this every day and I never get sick of the catchiness.
41. Cheat Codes featuring Demi Lovato – No Promises (#38) [–3]
~I feel like I heard this song ages ago. Still like it, though. He has a good voice.
40. MAX featuring Gnash – Lights Down Low (#38) [–2]
~Wonderful! This song is actually still here. I would never have predicted this in a million years.

39. Zedd featuring Alessia Cara – Stay (#36) [–3] [Spent 4 Weeks At #1]
~Still catchy and I love the drop.

38. Symon – Lonely Girl (DEBUT)
~Of all songs to debut without Hit-Bound experience... This song is lame, although a massive step up from Say.

37. Linkin Park – One More Light (#27) [–10]
~Linkin Park's worst song. This was almost orange a while ago. Linkin Park were so much better in the time of songs like Numb and What I've Done to create boring stuff like this.

36. Charlie Puth – Attention (#40) [+4] [Spent 1 Week At #1]
~This will remember always when the song at #1 was good.
35. Harry Styles – Kiwi (#35) [=]
~This will leave within the next month. Nobody has heard of this song. I thought it was still on Hit-Bound. It is a boring rock song.
34. Macklemore featuring Kesha – Good Old Days (DEBUT)
~Dreadful! No music at all, and no beat. Macklemore sounds so monotonous and Kesha is really annoying. I never liked her voice.
33. Niall Horan – Slow Hands (#33) [=]
~Repetitive and not sexy like he tries to be.

32. Taylor Swift – Look What You Made Me Do (#34) [+2]
~I laugh every time I see that title since it was such a big flop it's not even funny. I heard it on the radio for a week and then not ever again.

31. Nick Jonas – Find You (#28) [–3]
~Wait... I didn't even realize that this was on the countdown. Whatever! I find this song similar to Miss You, which turned out to be absolutely marvelous and might even crack my top 50 songs of all time. I totally underappreciated it. This one is similar to it, but I find James Hersey's voice matches this style better.

30. Ed Sheeran – Castle On The Hill (#31) [+1]
~How is this here? Seriously?

29. Liam Payne – Strip That Down (#26) [–3] [Spent 2 Weeks At #1]
~The only reason I find this bearable still is because of my grandfather's parody, more or less.

28. X Ambassadors – Ahead Of Myself (#29) [+1]
~X Ambassadors are awesome! They never disappoint eventually and in here, the singing is fantastic and the song itself is touching.

27. The Shadowboxers – Hot Damn (#21) [–6]
~Justin Timberlake wanna-be The Shadowboxers somehow got a song up to #21 on here. I don't know why. This song is repetitive, annoying, and lame.

26. Macklemore featuring Skylar Grey – Glorious (#6) [–20]
~Still love Skylar Grey, but I don't like Macklemore rapping slowly.

25. Shawn Mendes – There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back (#19) [–6] [Spent 5 Weeks At #1]
~Oh boy! What is wrong with this continent!!!!!!!!!

24. Lauv – I Like Me Better (#32) [+8]
~I remember this was in my top ten months ago. Then I realized how repetitive this was and downright boring.

23. Sam Hunt – Body Like A Back Road (#25) [+2]
~Another rapper making an impact on a pop station that underappreciated REAL rap.

22. Post Malone featuring 21 Savage – Rockstar (#24) [+2]
~I don't care what everybody thinks. This song is fantastic and no one can take that from me. Post Malone has a fantastic voice and the song is funny, mellow, and very enjoyable. The song has a fantastic beginning and the repetition of the same pitch is definitely not annoying. The production is fantastic and 21 Savage makes this song even better with his verse which changes things up. I didn't bother to look up the lyrics, and I will not.

21. P!nk – What About Us (#8) [–13] [Spent 1 Week At #1]
~Same here. I don't crae what everybody thinks. P!nk is not changing for the good. The best part of this song is the instrumental bridge when we get a break from her voice. She is painful to listen to and the song, worst of all, gets stuck in my head from all the times that I listened to it when I liked it (somehow!). Those are the songs that drive me crazy.

20. Portugal. The Man – Feel It Still (#15) [–5]
~This song is so catchy! Portugal. The Man's performance on I thinks the AMAs, the one without computers, was fantastic, and I love their back story and the fact that there is still actual instruments that reach pop radio is awesome. The song overall is so feel good and happy, and I always dance when I hear it. I even try.

19. Dua Lipa – New Rules (#22) [+3]
~I have grown out of this one.

18. Sam Smith – Too Good At Goodbyes (#13) [–5]
~Sam Smith is the type of guy that, when you first hear him, you say: « Hey, he has a cool voice with emotion! » but then after a few years you get so sick and tired of his whining voice in his songs that somehow sticks in your head when you don't want it to.

17. Zayn featuring Sia – Dusk Till Dawn (#30) [+13]
~Biggest jump of the week! Hey, this already broke the record on MWP for weeks at #1. This was certified Platinum multiple times in Australia, the best continent in the world in my opinion in terms of music charts. It's about time that this masterpiece gets in the top 20! Anyway, this song is magic right from the introduction. The build-up is the best of any song, period. The calmness of the verses to the ding before the chorus which lead to the awesome clash of Zayn and Sia's voices which leaves the listener mystified forever...

16. Imagine Dragons – Believer (#20) [+4] [Spent 3 Weeks At #1]
~Yet another powerful Imagine Dragons... Wait, Believer is in the top 20?

15. Selena Gomez featuring Marshmello – Wolves (#18) [+3]
~Fetish was much better, and the drop here got annoying super fast.

14. Bebe Rexha featuring Florida Georgia Line – Meant To Be (#17) [+3]
~I don't get the hype for this.

13. Niall Horan – Too Much To Ask (#23) [+10]
~Wonderful cute happy innocent song.

12. Kesha – Praying (#16) [+4]
~The chorus is the only decent part.
11. Charlie Puth – How Long (#14) [+3]
~Catchy like the modern Charlie Puth.

10. Demi Lovato – Sorry Not Sorry (#8) [–2] [Spent 1 Week At #1]
~Painful to listen to the chorus.

9. Maroon 5 featuring SZA – What Lovers Do (#11) [+2]
~Not Maroon 5's best by far, but still catchy, and I love SZA.

8. Kelly Clarkson – Love So Soft (#5) [–3]
~R&B does not suit Kelly Clarkson. Actually, singing in general does not suit Kelly Clarkson. Nothing was good from her in her whole career. And when she starts rapping, [censored]

7. Ed Sheeran – Galway Girl (#7) [=] [Spent 4 Weeks At #1]
~I still can't stand the fake fiddle.

6. Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso featuring Florida Georgia Line and Watt – Let Me Go (#10) [+4]
~I didn't expect this to do so well, especially considering the annoying drop.

5. Taylor Swift – ...Ready For It? (#12) [+7]
~This song is actually good, from Taylor Swift. I used to love it because of the production. I overplayed it because I was shocked that Taylor Swift made something awesome.

4. Imagine Dragons – Thunder (#4) [=] [Spent 2 Weeks At #1]
~Computers are conquering even Imagine Dragons...

3. Halsey – Bad At Love (#1) [–2] [Spent 1 Week At #1]
~I liked this only because of Halsey. I now realize how wrong I was in liking this song. It takes a very special person to sound good when rapping.

2. Ed Sheeran – Perfect (#2) [=]
~Hard to find someone who doesn't like this song. Very sweet and Sheeran.

1. Camila Cabello – Havana (#3) [+2] [1st Week At #1]
~Finally, finally, finally! Finally!!! A fantastic song at #1! The production is wonderful and the song is very catchy. I hear it all the time so that gives me time to enjoy how amazing this song actually is.

#1 Song This Week One Year Ago: Hailee Steinfeld & Grey featuring Zedd – Starving (1st of 4 weeks at #1)

Biggest DRRRRRRROP!!! Of The Week: Macklemore featuring Skylar Grey – Glorious (–20)

Biggest Jump Of The Week: ZAYN featuring Sia – Dusk Till Dawn (+13)

Top 5:
1. Dusk Till Dawn
2. Rockstar
3. Havana
4. Feel It Still
5. Lights Down Low

Bottom 5:
1. Love So Soft
2. Too Good At Goodbyes
3. TNHMB
4. Strip That Down
5. Bad At Love

Thanks for viewing! Also, expect a review of Bright: The Album, one of the best albums I have ever heard and bound to make an impact on MWP, it already has. That should come out soon. Bye!

  1. "Fetish was much better." *Insert me trying to not strangle your neck* Just kidding. I totally respect your opinion. Marshmello uses the same basic drop for every song, which prevents me from liking it more.
