Comments on debuts:
All these debuts are important. But I feel the need to talk the most about All Falls Down. Alan Walker has forever been by absolute favourite DJ. Faded, Alone, Sing Me To Sleep, Spectre... All his songs have this signature atmosphere that I enjoy so much. The mysterious electronic effects with those fantastic Norwegian singers make fantastic music. Now, I mentioned when I talked about Make Me (Cry) in my top 45 songs on Hits 1 from 2017, I said how good Noah Cyrus handled her mediocre voice in some songs. However, recently with I'm Stuck, I feared her collaborating with Alan Walker. So when I first heard this song I came with such high expectations for Alan Walker and he did not disappoint with the production, but really low ones for Noah Cyrus, so she did not disappoint either. I had this way up somewhere around #8 at some point on MWP. I guess I never gave this song a good listen since it was Alan Walker. And then at some point I heard this on the radio and I listened to it properly, since I expected it to debut at some point and I needed something to say. I realized that Noah Cyrus was actually really bad in All Falls Down. I feel as if she gave it a half-baked job. And the cringe way of swearing, right off the bat, makes it so much worse. She doesn't have a good voice, and in this song, she shows it. This is what I feared by Alan Walker. Don't get me wrong, his drop is still great. But the two singers, including that extremely annoying guy with a sort of Labrinth voice in the second verse, sound awful. This is, in my opinion, a remake of Make Me (Cry) with more crazy vocals and a heavy electronic part. This is definitely a stain on Alan Walker's resume and has, sadly, ruined his perfection for me.
I had Whatever It Takes on a CD for the road trip to the mountains this week one year ago. It was actually my #78 favourite song from 2017. It was my jam for half a week. Then I stopped listening to it so much since I would probably grow out of it. I next listened to it after 7 or 8 months, when it debuted Hit-Bound. I still loved the rock feel in the chorus and those powerful vocals so I put this song in yellow. But Imagine Dragons are really heading downwards, and hard. That rapping is so uncharacteristic of Night Visions them, I find it to be okay, but really on the edge. The new Imagine Dragons are worse. As it is with most bands.
The new Fall Out Boy, the next Imagine Dragons, but this version of 5SOS is surprisingly good. I love how they took it down a notch but kept hints of their style. 5SOS sounded old in their previous music, but now they have caught on and sound really interesting and abstract compared to what I am used to from them.
Hit-Bound
Bazzi - Mine
Meghan Trainor - No Excuses (DEBUT)
Khalid - Young Dumb & BrokeRudimental/Jess Glynne/Macklemore/Dan Caplen - These Days
Niall Horan - On The Loose
Portugal. The Man - Live In The Moment
Kesha/Dap-Kings Horns - Woman
Post Malone/Ty Dolla $ign - Psycho
Thirty Seconds To Mars - Walk On Water
Marshmello/Anne-Marie - Friends
Welshly Arms - Legendary
Keala Settle - This Is Me
Alice Merton - No Roots (DEBUT)
Dustin Atlas/Erin Bowman - Fake ... Friends (DEBUT)
~Don't Wanna Feel It was never going to be anywhere, and I found it bland anyway.
~Meghan Trainor is someone I want to change. this is another typical out of her recent songs. The verses are really annoying, but the chorus is surprisingly catchy. More on it when It goes somewhere.
~I really love the chorus of No Roots, and the bass is cool. It is old my 14 months, though, but new to me, so expect it to debut MWP next week :)
~That title made me head into this song with really low expectations. But the song sounds surprisingly okay considering it IS the girl from Good Time Good Life.
Top 5:
1. Legendary
2. Friends
3. Walk On Water
4. No Roots
5. Live In The Moment
Blurbs Fall Down
Middle at #1 was totally unexpected. From #20 to #1 in two weeks almost never happens. Anyway, I am not complaining as much as with some other songs at #1, but the production is still really lazy and not coordinated.
The #2-4 should really start making their way down. They have had their time.
We have two fantastic jumps into the top 6 from Lights Down Low and Let You Down. They were both expected, but I am still really happy about them. They are really good mellow songs, two of my favourites right now. I love taking a break from the chaos of the radio to listen to these two. I really, really, really, really hope that one of them can hit #1 within the next month.
Not much is happening in the top 20 except some songs moving around. We did have Finesse enter and Ahead Of Myself take a massive, but expected drop, but otherwise...
The Weeknd is on the brink of the top 20, while our other debut last week already dropped a LOT and is about to leave. I mean, come on. Why could this one of all Chainsmokers songs be the song that doesn't make a show for what it's worth?
Nothing is happening in our bottom section either. I still am a great fan for What Lovers Do, Rockstar, etc. but they aren't doing anything.
I remember around this time of year in 2016 (~March 26) Hits 1 had a weekend countdown where everybody pronounced the creators really drunk and high where we had massive jumps and drops all over that place. I hope we get another one of those since I don't have many praises about the countdown right now.
Ok, our exits. All Time Low leaving was totally a surprise. I never had much for that one. I know many people will have a private funeral for Praying, since it was a big one in this blogging community. I still adore the chorus, but not really the verses. The big exit for me this week, is, FINALLY, Too Good At Goodbyes. I still hear this song on the radio. I don't get what people like about this song. His voice is so whiny and the song is really boring! Anyway, good riddance. One bad song down, 17 to go.

At first I was like "why 101?" and then when I looked at the 101st song I regretted asking that.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteSasha: To be honest with you, I don't like What Lovers Do that much. It's overplayed and I need to stop listening to that song. It's annoying. I hate it.
ReplyDeleteI love it and I hope it stays forever!
